Future cyber defenders of Ukraine honed their skills in countering modern digital threats
The Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute hosted a Capture the Flag (CTF) cyber competition for teams, bringing together eight groups of cadets specialising in relevant fields. Organised by State Scientific and Research Institute of Cybersecurity Technologies and Information Protection (ICTIP) and Cyber Defense Department at SSSCIP, the event was not just an internal test of strength, but also a key stage in preparation for the prestigious international Transatlantic Trio Cyber Defense eXercise training.
The main objective was to practise detecting and neutralising cyber threats in a setting that closely resembles real-life digital confrontation conditions. This was made possible by using the advanced Cyber Ranges platform, to which the SSSCIP gained access through its collaboration with the USA company Cyber Ranges Corp. Specialists from the ICTIP managed the technical side of the process, ensuring the smooth operation of the cloud infrastructure and complex training scenarios.
Involving the best cadets in such competitions allows to assess of the training level of future public sector specialists, and also has a direct impact on national security. Training personnel who can respond quickly to complex cyberattacks is essential for protecting state infrastructure, ensuring the stable operation of services and safeguarding the personal data of Ukrainians.
